An initial is the first letter beginning a chapter or paragraph of a text, and is traditionally larger than the basic text, sometimes coloured, and often with an incorporated ornament. This style is seen in ancient Greek and Latin texts. Today, an initial also represents the first letter of a surname. A well-crafted sign with an ornament serves as a symbol, much like a coat of arms.
I designed the family ring with an initial for Mr. Martin. The serif font has a beautiful rhythm while managing the negative space perfectly, making the sign refined, balanced, and beautifully consistent with the whole signet. The letter is surrounded by a solar spatial engraving and is enclosed in an octagonal gold frame. The sides of the signet ring are decorated with floral asymmetrical engraving.
