The Siamese fighting fish is well known for its belligerent disposition, frequently fighting for territory with other members of its species. The fight consists of several phases: First, the opponents flex their fins. Next, they attack with a tail fin and bite. The long dorsal fins are also targeted during an attack, which, when damaged in combat, prevent the fighter from being able to move normally in the water. Finally, the fish lock their jaws, in an attempt to prevent each other from taking in air. Dominance over other fish creates a hierarchical structure among this species.
Found in Southeast Asia, this fish has become a symbol of bravery and courage, featured on various items, including on postage stamps. This interesting symbolism inspired me to design a pair of cufflinks. I started with a sketch, which required additional modifications after client approval. Then, working with the bullion, I carried out a series of tests to combine the two bullions - yellow gold and black silver. When the result was satisfactory, I acquired a set of sapphires in Sri Lanka. Finally, I developed the clasp and assembled the whole piece, setting the stones in 14k gold.
