On the plain of the Serengeti National Park, the sun rises. It is a chilly morning. The animals, bursting with energy, suddenly freeze in stillness. All eyes gaze into the distance. A powerful, majestic figure appears in the morning light. The shivers which run down the spine are not from the morning cold, but from the sudden feeling of being watched. The figure moves with dignity, like royalty. It is fearsome, yet beautiful. A large head surrounds a lush golden mane and its amber eyes observe with intent.
No animal stirs the human imagination more than the lion. In ancient times, African artists decorated rocks with paintings depicting lions grasping prey. Large stone figures of lions with magnificent manes adorned ancient palaces and temples; Lions are the heroes of books and films.
These predators can be very aggressive. Their roar is so powerful that it can be heard eight kilometres away; yet when content, their soft gentle purr is as a whisper. While at times they may appear as lazy and sleepy, do not be fooled- they can attack at lightning speed. We have immortalized lions in tribute to their courage, and a courageous person is said to be as ‘brave as a lion’.
This majestic animal has inspired the design of a unique ring. In the centre is set a brilliant sapphire, symbolising peace, harmony, and wisdom, complemented by diamonds set in hexagonal settings. The sides of the ring are decorated with lion heads. The ring has a matt finish which contrasts with the polished predators. The inside of the ring has been decorated with intricate floral motifs. The entire piece has been crafted in white gold.
