Wedding rings with the Lubicz coat of arms

Autor: Piotr Zieliński

According to a heraldic legend, there was a clash between the Mazovian knights and the Prussians at the Lubicz River (now the Drwęca) in 1190. For courage and special merits in capturing an enemy leader, a certain knight of the Pobóg coat of arms received his own coat of arms. It bore the name of the river by which the battle took place. Hence, the Lubicz coat of arms was most likely derived from the Pobóg coat of arms.

Individual wedding rings with a coat of arms

The Lubicz coat of arms has been recognised on several medieval seals, which have been preserved to this day. The oldest seal dates back to 1348 and belonged to Przedbor, the senior royal administrative official of Kujawy. Later on, the coat of arms appeared mainly among families settled in the Brest, Inowrocław, Lublin, Łęczyca, Poznań, Sandomierz and Sieradz lands. Among the most famous families who used the Lubicz coat of arms, the Tylicki and Żółkiewski families are worthy of note. Lubicz was also used by Czesław Miłosz.

This history of bravery and noble origin inspired the design of wedding rings with the Lubicz coat of arms. The deeply carved image of the shield was encircled with floral mantling according to a pattern provided by the client. I developed special tools to achieve several textures that shimmer when exposed to light. The hammered textures contrast with the reliefs finished in high gloss. The whole piece was made in solid yellow gold.
