Wedding rings with rubies

Autor: Piotr Zieliński

The wedding ring has been a symbol of fidelity since the early days of human history. Ancient Egyptian papyri dating as far back as 2000 B.C. contain engravings depicting the exchange of rings during a wedding. In that culture, the circle symbolised eternity, thus the ring symbolised the eternal love of each spouse. What distinguishes exclusive wedding rings today?

Contemporary wedding jewellery should symbolise individual love and unity. Every couple's story is different. How they met, what brought them together, or shared memories are perfect themes, providing a starting point for an individual design.

The woman's ring can be narrower and more delicate; the man's larger and wider. In this way, they represent the two different people. The common element is the individual design, which is present on both rings. It represents the fact that the two people are now inseparable. The composition can be decorated with diamonds or other precious stones, adding elegance and sparkle.

I designed the following set using a subtle floral pattern.  The female's ring is delicate and open-work. The stems are set with diamonds. The bell-shaped flowers are set with rubies. The composition is completed by leaves with larger diamonds. The male ring is wider. Large margins limit the design. The hammered negative space contrasts with the brilliant reliefs. The entire piece was made in 14k white gold.
