Nature is fascinating. It has always been a source of inspiration for artists who are enchanted by the beauty they observe. For the iris earrings, I was inspired both by nature and by Vincent Van Gogh's brilliant paintings. I started with rough sketches, and then transferred the finished design to the paper using the gouache technique.
Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch post-impressionist painter whose work, due to its vivid colours and emotional impact, had a far-reaching influence on the art of the 20th century.
After the design was finished, it was sent to the studio. I decided to make these earrings using the methods of the French masters. The back of each earring has been finished with the greatest attention to detail: each hole in the stone has been cut in such a way as to provide the gems with as much light as possible, turning even the back of the jewellery into an interesting mosaic. Then, on the entire surface of the earrings, I framed the sapphires in black and yellow 18k gold.
