The sound of crystal-clear water in a stream, the gentle rustling of leaves swaying in the wind, a cloudless sky above, and the sun shining through the trees - such are the enchanting sights and sounds that the Écrins National Park in the French Dauphiné Alps welcomes you with.
The fundamental aim of creating national parks is to protect plants and animals. Therefore, visitors are not allowed to pick flowers, including the magnificent red lily, growing along the paths. Another example is the well-known Alpine Edelweiss, also a protected species.
This flower is found in the Alps, the Apennines, the Carpathians, and the mountains of the Balkan Peninsula. The only natural sites where you can see it in Poland are in the Tatra Mountains. It grows about 2,000 metres above sea level, where harsh conditions, such as strong winds, low temperatures, and extreme sunlight, occur. It makes Edelweiss very hardy and adaptable to extreme environmental conditions.
In addition to its extraordinary beauty, edelweiss has a rich history and cultural significance. For centuries, it has been considered a symbol of purity, love, and courage. In some alpine cultures, such as Austria, edelweiss was traditionally given to a loved one as an expression of affection.
This unusual flower, which requires protection, inspired a unique set of earrings. Black diamonds are set in the centre. Smaller white diamonds surround them. Diamonds, as well as yellow and blue sapphires, are placed in the petals. The whole piece was made in three-colour 14k gold.
