Ear cuff with a dragon

Autor: Piotr Zieliński

Legend has it that the islands of this bay were created by a great dragon who lived in the mountains. A guidebook explains: "As the dragon made its way towards the shore, it threshed the land with its tail, carving valleys and ravines; when it plunged into the sea, the areas dug up with its tail were flooded with water, with only scraps of land sticking out here and there" (The Lonely Planet Guidebook on Vietnam).

Wind and water played the role of this monster- they gave the small islands located in Hạ Long Bay all sorts of shapes and sizes. Located in Vietnam, it is called the Gulf of the Descending Dragon. It is home to around 3,000 islands that look like they date back to the time of the dinosaurs. They are scattered over an area of nearly 1,500 square kilometres. The emerald water of the bay adds to the fairytale character of this unique place.

The legend surrounding Hạ Long inspired the unique earring. It represents the silhouette of a mythical animal covered in scales that, like a snake, winds its way around the earlobe. The head protrudes above the concha of the ear. The wing acts as an element adjacent to the helix of the ear. The tip of the tail is a form of inverted clasp, giving the impression that the tail is piercing the lobe. The whole piece was made in solid white gold.
