La Bambouseraie ring

Autor: Piotr Zieliński

Attempts to import this unique plant from Asia were unsuccessful. Although some species can survive even at minus 24°C and thrive at altitudes of up to 5,000 metres, keeping them alive during their long journey across continents proved impossible.

Almost 150 years ago in south France, a certain Eugène Mazel, a spice importer from Asia, created the world's largest bamboo tree nursery. Until 1855, Mazel's ambitious idea faced a serious problem: bamboo did not grow in Europe. In 1827, when faster ships became available, Bamboo specimens could be brought to France. Mazel's dream had come true!

Mazel’s botanical garden, La Bambouseraie, boasted almost 200 varieties of this fast-growing and versatile plant from the grass family. Unfortunately, Mazel went bankrupt in 1890 and had to sell his precious garden. Fortunately, his successors continued his work and now some 350,000 people visit La Bambouseraie every year- Mazel's dream was thus fulfilled.

The remarkable story of this bamboo garden inspired the creation of a unique ring. The concept is based on four stalks of bamboo, which flow seamlessly from the setting into the ring. An exceptional 10-carat checkerboard-cut amethyst is set in the centre. The stone alludes to the peace of mind experienced upon entering La Bambouseraie. The tips of the amethyst are the tops of the main setting and have been decorated with diamonds.
