A jaguar has a fawn coat spotted with black rosettes, which have small spots in the centre, helping it to disappear unnoticed into the shadows. One biologist commented: ‘You can stand next to a jaguar and still not see it at all’. This agile hunter feeds on more than eighty species of other animals. It lies in wait for its prey by sitting quietly in a tree. When a herd passes nearby, it leaps. With a mighty blow, it kills its victim and is back in the tree in no time. The jaguar waits for the herd to move away and then takes its prey.
Historically, jaguars lived in an area from the south of the USA to the tip of South America. They have now disappeared from almost half of the territory inhabited just a century ago. According to a study by the Wildlife Conservation Society, nearly 40 percent of the territory occupied by jaguars has disappeared due to deforestation. As usual, man has proved to be the greatest threat to the animal kingdom.
The majestic jaguar became the inspiration for a unique ring. It consists of four intertwining cats. Two of them hold a crown with a unique gem, a 1.50-carat tsavorite, symbolising the green of the jungle. The other two cats leaps alternately. The solid yellow gold ring is set with 250 black diamonds.
