Iris ring

Autor: Piotr Zieliński

Deriving its name from the Greek word ἶρις, meaning "rainbow," this flower takes on a fan shape and showcases one or more symmetrical, six-petaled blooms. Blooming from May to June with blue and white flowers with yellow accents, it is, disputedly, the lily of the French monarchy. Its blue colour symbolises hope and faith while yellow is the colour of passion, and white is associated with purity and innocence.

The iris is a plant of the Iridaceae family, comprising more than 250 species of perennial herbaceous plants found throughout the northern hemisphere in areas with temperate and warm climates. Their great diversity and adaptability make them truly remarkable. Species may be encountered growing in mountainous regions, rocky areas, deserts, plains, swampy areas, and even in water.

This unique flower has inspired many artists, including Vincent Van Gogh, who painted several famous works featuring irises. Personally, the iris has a special place in my heart. Whenever I went into the garden at my family home, I always admired these beautiful flowers. The iris inspired me to create an extraordinary ring. In the centre of the composition is a perfect yellow sapphire held by the flower's stamens. The petals are decorated with 220 blue sapphires. The whole piece is crafted in yellow and white gold.
