Ring made of Chinese porcelain

Autor: Piotr Zieliński

It is one of the most unique and highly regarded fields of ceramic art. Its long history dates back thousands of years, and its production technique and exceptional quality make it highly prized by collectors, art historians, and lovers of beauty. Chinese porcelain has its roots in the ancient period. It developed in the Han dynasty (206 BC-220 AD). In later periods, manufacturing techniques reached a high level of perfection. One of the breakthroughs was the discovery of Kaolin, a type of white clay, near Jingdezhen in Jiangxi Province, which gave rise to Chinese porcelain in the white and blue style.

An essential part of the production of Chinese porcelain is the firing process, which can last up to several days at extreme temperatures (over 1,300°C). Through the firing process, the porcelain acquires its extraordinary hardness, fineness, and even transparency. This process has enabled Chinese porcelain to survive for centuries intact.

Chinese porcelain is known for its rich, varied designs and beautiful hand-painted decorations. For centuries, it has been exported to different regions of the world, influencing the development of ceramic art in other cultures. Today, ancient, unique Chinese porcelain is more valuable than ever and constitutes an important cultural heritage of humanity.

This magnificent field of art became the inspiration for a unique ring. A superb sapphire of an exquisite cut, clarity, and colour, alluding to the blue designs, has been set in the centre. It is complemented by a halo set with black diamonds. The ring is decorated with floral meanders, characteristic of Chinese ceramics. The negative space has been hollowed out and filled with white enamel, fired in a kiln- just like porcelain. The whole piece has been made in 14k white gold.
