Few gems have captured the imagination of almost all civilisations like the sapphire. Its history comes from the Etruscan civilisation and dates back to the 7th century BC. Both Greeks and Romans admired the stone. As a result, ancient cultures were full of stories, beliefs, and folklore about the sapphire.
The mineral is unequivocally associated with the colour blue. However, sapphire also occurs in other hues. One of these is an extremely rare variety: a bright yellow shade. This colour is synonymous with courage, wisdom, and prosperity in many cultures.
Finding the perfect gem was not a simple task. Yellow sapphires, depending on their origin, come in shades ranging from greenish to almost white. The most desirable colour is canary yellow. Stones of this colour are found in Sri Lanka, famous for its top-grade sapphires.
I started my search, however, in Bangkok, which is one of the main centres of trade in colored stones in the world. That is where a large proportion of stones from Asia end up. However, the primary destination for yellow sapphires is India.
It was there that I found the stone for this project. It weighs 1.50 ct, has a deep, uniformly saturated colour, and high purity. The entire design is completed with a halo decorated with diamonds. The V-shaped ring, studded with diamonds, gives delicacy to the composition. The piece was made in 14k white gold.
