In Iran, art is still created without electricity or haste. It is based on the principles of mathematics and geometry. Slowly and meticulously, intricate ornaments are created in metal, wood, and stone. They decorate houses, temples, and even everyday objects. The famous Persian gardens, crisscrossed with alleyways and shallow pools, show how valuable the natural world is as a source of inspiration for the Iranians. The famous Silk Road ran through Iran. It was a 6,500-kilometre-long trade route linking the Roman Empire with China, on which the paths of many different cultures intersected.
The uniquely beautiful ornamentation of Iran inspired me to design a set of wedding rings. Stylised flowers, braided in inverted symmetry, were juxtaposed with simple geometric shapes alluding to Iranian architecture. The negative space is openwork, which gives the composition lightness and intricacy. The whole piece was made in 14k yellow gold.
