Ikebana with amethyst

Autor: Piotr Zieliński

Ikebana (a.k.a. kadō - the way of flowers) is the Japanese art of bringing out natural beauty through the careful arrangement of flowers and other plants. It is a discipline held in high esteem. At its core, it shows what has captured the imagination of the creator.

Flower ring with an individual design

For example, if the artist intends to evoke the mood of autumn, he can use autumn leaves and flowers such as gentian or Patrinia scabiosifolia. What if he wants to add a crisp breeze? A bunch of trembling Japanese miscanthus will have the desired effect- the stems will wobble as if in an autumn breeze. Ikebana has captivated me. I have found much joy looking at these plant compositions. How is this art form transferred to the world of jewellery?

Plant ring with amethyst and diamonds in white gold

Observing various flowers, I wanted to give my composition an autumn mood. The white gold gives the impression of a plant being frosted over during a chilly morning. The diamonds on the leaves give the impression of frozen dewdrops. In the centre, I have placed a flower that looks as if it will survive the coming winter. The Bolivian amethyst in the centre of the Portuguese-cut composition carries the hope of rebirth and warm spring sunshine. After all the elements of the ring were soldered together, the stones were forged according to the art of ancient goldsmithing. This type of manufacturing ensures that it will be a piece of jewellery passed down from generation to generation.

This ring was featured in the autumn issue of Polish magazine Moda.
