In the case of a funeral or memorial service, more and more people are looking for a dignified and personal way to express their respect and remembrance. Although it may be a new concept for some, funeral jewellery is becoming an increasingly popular accessory for mourning ceremonies.
Such accessories can serve as a symbol of remembrance for a loved one. To feel the loss of a sense of intimacy is perfectly natural at this time. The right jewellery can help to restore it. It is a subtle and discreet yet personal and intimate way to bring a loved one's memory to life on a daily basis.
Remembrance jewellery can also remind us of the inevitable end of human existence. Wearing such memorial jewellery can serve as a reflection on mortality and an encouragement to enjoy the present moment, keeping in mind that life is fragile and fleeting.
With transience in mind, I designed a unique signet ring. The stone is a custom-cut red agate from Yemen called Aqeeq. In that region, it symbolises courage and perseverance in enduring difficulties. It is set in a frame of solid gold. The sides of the ring are decorated with a floral engraving with a flower motif. The inside of the signet ring is also decorated with an ivy-shaped ornament. The whole piece is set in 14k yellow gold.
